Default New HD for laptop

Hi I have a problem with my Packard Bell laptop and was wondering if anyone have any ideas before I bin it lol

The HD died big time so I purchased a replacement, the problem came when I tried to put XP back on to the HD from the rescue disk I had made when I purchased the laptop, PBell did not supply one so I made the copy.

The laptop has an error saying that there is a glue parts error, pci device controller, pci modem appears with a yellow question mark in the other devices tab, ie it does not recognise the modem, there are a few other hardware parts it does not recognise.

I suspect it is a missing file/s on the recovery disk but can not see anyway around it even if I got a new copy of XP as am I not right in thinking that PBell use there XP with drives etc for there laptops?

Any advice would be most welcome,
Sean
