Default Couple of Queries

Can anyone point me in the right direction with

1. How to reset the hit counter on my admin page.

2. I want to verify my site with google. They have given me a meta tag to put into my main page between header and body. I am not sure where this is. Is this in the css stylesheet under includes / templates/ classic / css etc. or is it somewhere else?

Thanks

Hi Karenkte

To reset your hit counter go to Admin> Tools> Store Manager> Update Counter and input the figure you want it to start from.

You can edit your meta tags in

/includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/html_header.html

Though it is easier and faster to upload the Google file to your site than to edit the above file. I always use the file method rather than the meta tag one.

Create a file using notepad or an HTML editor if you have one. It doesn't matter what it contains as long as you give it the name that Google gives you, then FTP it to the root of your site. Go back to your Google Webmasters account then click the verify button.

Lawrence,

When I reset the counter and then go back to my admin page it has not gone back to zero and the date remains the same.

Also, since getting the site live I've noticed the links to other products no longer work....I did change them as you advised so they would work when site was up and running. When i go into the catalogue to try and amend the links I get this message
Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable: /hsphere/local/home/karenkte/mysite.co.uk/images/

Any idea what is going wrong?

Thanks

Karen

The counter should change when you reset it in admin, try pushing <shift> and while refreshing the page to see if that makes a difference.

You need to set the write permissions on your images directory. Set it to 777.

Lawrence,

I have set the permissions and this is working now.

I have verified with google, using your instructions and this is also ok now.

Only thing I still can't get to work is the reset of hit counter. I've tried pressing shift when reseting but still no joy.....any further suggestions?

Thanks

Karen

You don't press shit when resetting, you press shift when refreshing the admin home page to ensure you have a fresh copy as opposed to a cached one.

When you click the reset button, it will either say "Successful Counter Updated to: 0" on the top LHS of the page, or display an error message.

To be honest, the Zen hit counter is a waste of time, use something like Google Analytics which will give you some useful information.
