Default Does anyone still install OSC?

As the title says, do many people still install osCommerce or has Zen Cart killed it as far as new installations go?

I personally haven't known anyone to do a fresh install of OSC for at least 18 months, everyone seems to go for Zen instead.

I think perhaps Zen is the cart of choice for do-it-yourself e-commerce sites, it being a newer slimmed-down version of Os-commerce, but professional web designers still seem to use OSC - perhaps because it carries more back-office strength?

I must admit that as a user I prefer Zen as it has many nice features that are lacking in a default OSC install, but when it comes to hacking the source code, I find OSC much easier to work with.

I'm trying to convert everyone to Zen, I find it much easier to tweak, and haven't found I've needed a hack/mod that wasn't available and my one store has at least 20 mods.
Anyway that's my tuppence.

I'd rather convert everyone to Zen too, as most of the features that people want are already there and if they aren't there's likely to be a mod to do the job, but when it comes to getting down and dirty with the source code, OSC is much easier to work with.

and i use Auctionblox so my ebay customers can pay on my osc site.

Well I said I would give the Zen cart a go and I have.
Its a pity that all the bells and whistles it does have keep going wrong.
To me it seems very unstable and unreliable and has never worked properly from new
I used osc for several years without any problems and can see me reinstalling it.

Well, I just recently installed OSC in November to begin my online web store. I like the way the script runs so far, but when I can afford it I will upgrade to better software. You can see my store recently setup at http://foxhollow.ifastnet.com/

Hi fox-hollow, when I visted your site my browser immediatley warned me that it had blocked three pop-ups. One of these pop-ups was for Smiley Central which is notorious for it's spy ware. You will definetley lose potential customers using these pop ups as many people hit the back browser button as soon as they appear especially for the likes of Smiley Central. For more info on SC and what it can do to your PC, check the links below.

One thing you should ask yourself about the likes of SC, is why do they spend fortunes on marketing when they give their products away for "free"???

I personally have used both and am currently using Zen but OSC also has a beefed up version called Cre-Loaded that has a good sized following.
