It's in common/html_header.php in your template directory. To find anything on your site, the quickest way to do it is to do a site wide search in Dreamweaver. If you searched for "meta" you would have found the answer in seconds.

You don't actually need the <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" >
line. It's only useful if you change the name or location of the favicon. Just putting the favicon file in the web root is enough to make it work.

Who told you that? That's not true at all.

Sometimes on IE7 you can have a problem with the previous one sticking which can be fixed by clearing the cache.

I've just checked both your sites and they have the same problem The favicon works in FF but not IE7. The usual cause of this is that it has been saved as the incorrect format (Sometimes some people can see the favicon in IE7 and others can't when it's the wrong format leading you to think it's working ok). You can't just save it with a .ico extension, it needs to be saved as an actual .ico file because it contains more info than a normal image. Even PhotoShop can't create them, it requires a plug-in to save favicons correctly.

You can convert it to the correct format by using www.favicon.co.uk.
