Red face Finding Files and then what!

Hope I'm not repeating questions here, but I can't find a simple answer either here or on the zen site.

Forgive me but I am a complete numpty where these things are concerned, my store is very new - I'm managing to navigate my way around the admin, and actually do bits and bobs , but more often than not, the info then telss me to also change details in the files....now I've looked in every place I can think of both in admin and cpanel and am completely at a loss at a) how to find any in the 1st place, b) locate the correct file and c) how much damage can I do

Thanks folks, patience and proper English is the way to my heart on here

To edit the actual files you need an FTP client.

Try FileZilla, once you've got it set up, it'll be like opening files from your own PC.

You'll need to dig out the ftp server address, U/N and P/W to configure it.

It's like a webserver, but it allows you to interact directly with the files on the server. I've resent the email with your FTP details, use those details in the program I linked to above to edit the files on the server.

Sorry, but I'm back again.....
I've logged on to filezilla and presumably, to open the files I have to download - correct?

Yes, that's right. You need to download the file you want to edit before it can be opened. Double clicking the file will download and open it, so it'll be like opening a file on your own PC, but with a slight time delay.
