Hi Bill
Your best bet would be to seek out a template for your store. There are some free ones available though you'd be better off with one of the commercial templates. We have a template seller as a member on here, Dezina. check the link in her sig for a good place to start. I wouldn't recommend Template Monster though as I've known a few people to have problems with them. If it's simply the colour of the default template you want to change then what you have to do is change /includes/templates/classic/images/tile_back.gif to an image of the same size but different colour. This image is responsible for all the green on the site. If you want to get more adventurous then I'd suggest you copy the whole template so you can revert back if something goes wrong. To do this, make a copy of /includes/templates/classic and name it /includes/templates/YOUR TEMPLATE NAME You will then need to set this as the default template from your admin control panel, if you need help to do this just shout. You will see other images in the same folder that you can change to alter the appearance of your site too. The template's CSS you will find here /includes/templates/YOUR TEMPLATE NAME/css/stylesheet.css You can change various aspects of the design of your site with this, though if you don't know CSS be careful what you change. If it all goes wrong don't panic, just go into admin and change back to the default template.
