Default Installation walkthrough!

Does anyone know of a 1.3.7. to 1.3.8a upgrade walkthrough for Zen besides the one at the main zen cart forum? Thanks,
Ron.

I haven't tried the upgrade, but personally I'd wait until v1.4 before upgrading.

Agreed Laurence, prefer 1.3.7.1..only reason to upgrade to
1.3.8* would
be if you want to use PayPal Pro..
Important piece of info at

I guess it's up to whenever you want to drink your poison. I know that there are no security upgrades in 1.3.8 or 1.3.8a but there is a database upgrade which will have to be done now or at 1.4.0. It's nothing major but the bug fixes are a major PITA. I have upgraded 4 so far and still like 6 more and the winmerge thing is overkill.

On the last one I just made copies of my page changes and I did not have but one mod so it went well except the UPS mod will not activate now. I did not uninstall it as they said in the tuut and the choices were to deactivate the mod or remove it. I just deactivated it and mow it will not activate.

I wonder if I could just upload the UPS mod into the folder and see if it will work that way?

Thanks also dezina but like I said in my post, anywhere but the main zen cart forum. They have forgot what GNU means there and I just won't cope with them right now. Probably my own stubborness but I'll find other forums to post and get replies from.

There are a couple "rogue" Zen cart forums and that is actually how I found this forum. I was searching zen cart forums and going right down the line. This is not what I was looking for as far as an informational forum on onstalling and upgrading but after I read a few posts I could tell it was a friendly place so I thought that i might stay a while.

Thats not to say that there is not a lot of info here but usually small forums of these type are focused around helping it's members and trying to grow a business.

One thing that I wanted to know about were the database changes. I know that I cannot upload my old 137 database to the new 138a database because of the changes that they made to the database structure but can I set up a new database and query in each data row? Will the data rows still insert into the new or old database?

I have doen 4 upgrades so far without winmerge and I know there has got to be an easier way. I may just break down and try the winmerge program, I have downloaded and installed but have not checked it out yet. The database row insertion would make it so much easier but they are real hush hush about the changes they made to the database this time. I wonder if the changes are in the change/log files in the docs folder?

I haven't compared the to databases yet so I don't know what the differences are, though I would imagine if you did it one table at a time you could make any necessary adjustments before inserting the data.

I recently transfered a site from OSC to Zen, most of the product/cat tables matched but a couple of the OSC ones had additional but redundant fields so I temporarily added these fields to the Zen DB, inserted the data then removed the redundant fields. I could have done it by removing the excess data at source but it was easier to copy the lot over then remove the fields afterwards. I imagine a similar technique could be used when upgrading Zen. If I get the time, I'll compare the to DB structures to see what the differences are, though I doubt there's much difference between the two.

Thanks lawrence. For some reason I cannot log into one of clients site this morning. I'm the only one with a pasword. I resent a password but it would not work either. I checked all the errors and access files but nothing there.

I have only been dealing with Zen for a couple months and I am trying to pick up as much as I can but I only know basic things about the password area. I hate to do a fresh install. The site is young and has only been up a few weeks. I only have 5 test items listed so far.

I did look at the admin table last night in the database, I clicked on edit but did not change anything. If by clicking on edit I wonder if it reset something. I did not save and just went to another area. I had recently backed up all the files but I did not have a database backup. I thought about querying in a new admin table but now that will not work either.

Is there a defult setting if I put in an admin table from the install file, something like admin for username and password for password? I doubt it with Zen. Anything that I am missing that you guys might can think of?

If you create a new customer account with the P/W you want to use, you'll then be able to copy the U/N & encrypted P/W fields into the admin user fields with phpMyAdmin. This should let you login with those details. Also, have you checked that the admin email address is correct in the DB? It may be worth checking this first, then request a new P/W be emailed to you after changing it.

The email is working. I have requested a new password twice already and tried them with no success.

I did reset the admin email yesterday through the admin section but I did not think this would affect the log in.

I had seen the password reset in the FAQ but has forgotten about it. Thank you for the workaround and thank you also Lawrence for your suggestions.

They say for security reasons to only have one admin account. Since the original is not working maybe I should delete it and change the email in the new one to the old email?

I also know now what caused it and I kinda feel like a doofus!

I added her last name yesterday for obvious reasons but I did not think about it changing the log in admin name. I think where I changed it would only change it in the appropriate areas, emails and things of that nature.

Jeeeze, maybe I need sleep, I have been working 15 hours days, 7 days a week now for 2 months. Is is nighttime there? I take you all are in the UK.

Yep, delete the admin account if it's unused.

Most of us are in the UK, it's 19:30, dark and bloody cold.
