Default Timeouts

Hello Lawrence

I seem to get a lot of timeouts in admin panel and it takes ages for pages to load, is there something you can do to help speed things up. Other sites run fine on my PC but my shopping cart is running very slow.

Regards Bill

1.Turn OFF category counts(top left hand box i.e. (49)
2.Turn OFF category counts for admin too
Both via admin/configuration/mystore
3.GZIP
Turn it on..via /admin/configuration
GZip Compression.
See if altering those 3 settings help speed up
your zencart store
Also
You are linking to that image from another site..if that site is slow
loading, so will yours..copy that image to your own zencart image directory
and link to that.
Manufacturer's sidebox activated..this also slows down zencart

Hi Bill

Without being able to access your admin area it's impossible to say for sure. The rest of your site seems fast enough, though as Dazina pointed out you should move the freeindex image to your hosting so you are not reliant on them feeding your site the image.

Sometimes at this time of year, I've found that some sites on shared hosting can notice a a drop in performance due to Xmas sales, not necessary from your own site, but from other sites using the same resources. Namesco are pretty good at balancing the load, so this dip is usually very temporarily.

Without being able to witness the degradation in performance myself, it's impossible to say for sure what the cause is. If it continues, set up an admin account for me and I'll have a look to see what I can find.

BTW can everyone with technical posts please address them to the forum as opposed to directly to me as there are other people on here who can help.

Tips I gave in my initial post in this thread,
were given to me by
zencart developer and they do work..
plus the following one which had forgotten
i.e.
Quote:
You can test zencart loading times yourself by using:
Admin > Configuration > Logging : Display The Page Parse Time [true]
You will then see at the bottom of every Zen Cart page, the load time for PHP & mySQL. Load your Zen Cart Home page then Refresh. If the times for both are greater than 1 second, the Server is slow / overloaded.

gzip is already activated on your server, so you should make sure that it is left switched off in ZenCart's admin as switching it on is likely to have the opposite of the desired effect and actually slow your site down. See http://tutorials.zen-cart.com/index.php?article=255

You can confirm the current gzip status by checking your php config.
