Anyone can tell me on my site under Server info "osCommerce 2.2-MS2" is showing as installed version. Is this the latest version or new version also available if available then which one and how to update..any detailed document?
I installed this through fantastico last year with BuySafe module but now not taken the fantastico subscription and also changed the server. Hope to hear from someone. |

v2.2. is the latest version. They're working on v3 but AFAIK no release date has been announced for the finished product, though an alpha version is available for download.

2.2rc2a means v2.2 Release Candidate 2a whereas 2.2-MS2 means v2.2 Milestone 2.
You can find out more about the terminology used in software release cycles from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Softwar...ase_life_cycle There's more info about the differences in osCommerce versions on http://www.oscommerce.com/about/news Some of the bug fixes that are mentioned are environment specific, so unless you're running the S/W on any of the configurations mentioned, it won't make any difference whether you install the bug fixes or not. Have a look at the release notes and compare them to your set up and decide whether it's worth installing the latest version. I'm sure you know the saying "If it ain't broke...."

Thanks a lot lawrence for the detailed reply. Can you tell me what do you mean by "unless you're running the software on any of the configurations mentioned"
Secondly how can i know which version of MS2 is installed, is this 051112 or 060817. For upgrade, i have to installed each and every version or just install the last version on the previous one, and how to upgrade.. hope doesn't broke the template using from templatemonster |

What I mean by "configurations" is the server configuration i.e. PHP5, MYSQL4 etc, etc.
You should be able to see which version of OSC you have installed from admin. I don't have an installed version to be able to check this but you can tell if you have the latest version by some of the file dates. The latest version as some files dated 30/01/08

I installed the OSC version 7-8 months before, then definately not latest but point is worth upgrading or not and work with current template or not?
I checked in admin but didn't find out which version of OSC is installed except v2.2 MS2 but no numbers like "051112 or 060817" So, need help, for upgrade or not? |

Considering you're using a template from Template Monster, I wouldn't risk changing anything as their template have a reputation for being more hacks than actual templates. If you do a search on both osCommerce's and ZenCart's forums you'll find plenty of examples of people who've had loads of problems with their "templates". If it's working as it is, I'd leave it for now and wait until v3 is released then decide if you want to upgrade to that.
