Thanks for the welcome Kate, although I have a website, all the work is done for me so a lot of this is still very new and unintelligible to me, but I really want to learn how to tweak and make simple changes on my own.....

Hi Susie, welcome to the forum.

The first thing your site needs is a meta description tag as yours is missing. Something like

HTML Code:
<meta name="description" content="A really interesting description of my site containing lots of keywords." />
You can do the keywords too if you're bored, but they are rarely used nowadays so are a low priority.

You put that at the top of the page somewhere under the <title>.....</title> tags and above the </head> tag.

Jees Lawrence, this is where my problems begin - I dont have access to the code and any changes require many, many emails before, eventually I get any response.

Can you not get the FTP details for your hosting from them? How was your contract with them worded? Did you buy the software from them? In other words, does it belong to you or them. If it's yours, then tell them you want full access to it so you can admin it yourself.

I assume there's a recurring fee for them to admin the site for you?
