Default VirtueMart & Joomla

Has anyone tried VirtueMart on the Joomla CMS?

It sounds very interesting, especially if you want your store to be more than just a shop.

I'm very tempted to install it just to see what all the fuss is about. If I do I'll post a URL here to let you check it out.

Never having heard of it before I went to have a look. Joomia seems to be a php based CMS that has VirtualMart as a plug-in shopping cart. It appears to be highly thought of for smooth handling of digital download sales, but other than that it doesn't seem to be any better than OSC and ZenCart for normal trading.

Joomla, is an off shoot of Mambo which I haven't played with for at least two years so it'll be interesting to see how they've developed it since. I'll install it and VirtueMart and let you know what I think.

I went back to play with the demo. Seems user-friendly from both sides and, being open source, is pocket-friendly too. Worth considering I would think for anyone just dipping a toe into online selling.

A friend is trying the Joomla/VirtueMart combo. She likes Joomla, but deleted VirtueMart stating that it's more difficult than it needs to be. She switched to OSCommerce.

Another seller I communicated with recently was dissatisfied with VM's depth of subcategories which caused problems organizing a variety of tee shirts.

I installed, but have not yet worked with Mambo on one of my sites. I'm partial to ZenCart and will be trying that combo later this year or early '08.

Meanwhile, I'll be interested to read other people's experience on the Joomla/VM platform!

Welcome to the forum omgnetworkcom, nice site BTW.

I've downloaded Joomla but have yet to install it. As soon as I get a break I'll have a go at that and VM to see how it rates.

I too am quite partial too Zen, but the new kid on the block Magento looks as if it's going to give all the open source (and probably most of the top end paid for) packages a run for their money so I'll be busy playing with that as soon as it's released.

I've finally got around to installing Joomla, they've definitely come along way from when I last tried Mambo. I'll play with it for a while to feel my way around then install VM to see what it's all about.

Greetings

This is my first post on this forum. I am involved with a hosting business based in Switzerland. Our sites are mostly Joomla based, and Virtuemart is the preferred shopping cart because of the "seamless" way it integrates with the rest of a Joomla based site. My mate Hamish swears by it.

cheers
Duncan

Welcome to eshop forums Duncan.

I still haven't got around to installing VirtueMart and with the scheduled release of Magento Beta 1 tomorrow I'm probably going to have to put it on hold for a while. No doubt others who use Joom/VM or are considering it as an option will call on your experience from time to time.

Feel free to post some examples of what you guys can do with it, I'd be interested in having a look myself.
