Default Caught out by Google

I have recently been watching by web site's progress up the Google search results and was ecstatic when my site was number 2 on the list. Then I got suspicious.

After a little research, I found that when I was logged into my iGoogle account I was number 2, when I logged out I was on the fourth page.

Apparently, because I visit my site so often when making changes, iGoogle felt that it was an important site for me and pushed it up the results. Bah

Default I know what you mean

Yes very odd search engine is Google, I think lots of people waste lots of time trying to get in the Google search engine and never get anywhere.
The time is much better spend getting known on the loads of other search engines like Yahoo, All the web etc as it's always going to be those that sends your site and shops to the public in the end anyway.
We were listed at the top of Google in 2008, mostly due to the name, but now we are on 2000th page I think or lower hi hi, but it really don't matter because we are tops on all the others.
Just type Alternative4u into any browser you will see what I mean, and we waste no time trying to get listed on Google.
I put your domain name in my search engine finder and got the results listed below, hope that helps.
All The Web 2,470 Alta Vista 2,890 Google 5 MSN/Live 59 Yahoo 2,693

Those results are for your domain at 9pm today 3rd July 2009

David

Hi David, Not sure what you mean by 'put my domain name into my search engine finder. Whenever I try any search engine, 'TopShopper' always comes top. What I want is for TopShopper.net to come top when a search is made for 'Shopping Cart'. Small hope I know when there must be thousands of shopping cart providers.

Many Regards

Default You are up top

Hello Mike,
Well I just put topshopper into my Firefox search engine at 10.30 pm tonight and you come in on page 1 at the very top, I am wondering why your not getting same results? by the way I searched with Google still you are top on page 1, the .net part was after your name as it should be too, not too sure what your needing it to do.
Bye
David

Hi David,
In your original post you said: "All The Web 2,470 Alta Vista 2,890 Google 5 MSN/Live 59 Yahoo 2,693". What did those numbers mean?

As I said, I hope that I could get TopShopper on the first page when the search term "shopping cart" was entered.
Using the Google position checker at http://www.searchenginegenie.com/goo...k-checker.html

TopShopper is at position 795 using the serch term "shopping carts" but nowhere in the first 1000 using the search term "shopping cart".

Regards

Default Links for you.

Hello Mike,
Yes what I did was paste the full domain name you have got into a free bit of down-load software called Link Popularity Check, you can add as many url's as you like, anyway when you tell the software to check where your position is in all search engines it will list yours and you will see how you score on the search engines, eg you have 5 on Google.
By the way your domain name is what most search engines will spread about for you on the internet right? so with the name you have bought why do you feel it should find this "shopping cart" thing you mention? if you are going to use "shopping cart" (all on-line shops use one) you will be like finding a needle in a haystack, it's rather like asking a search engine to find a website called shop, I am sorry but I am a bit confused.
Cheers,
David

Default SEO

Hi David,

The thing is, it is unlikely that anyone would know TopShopper, so they would more likely simply search for 'asp shopping cart'. Using the Google Position Checker at http://www.searchenginegenie.com/goo...k-checker.html I find that if someone searched for 'asp shopping cart' in the UK then my site would come up at position 27 - which is probably on the 3rd page. This isn't too bad as they may have tried the rest and thought they were too expensive.

So I see a few people coming from Google who have searched for 'asp shopping cart' - but not many. I use Adwords with the keywords 'shopping cart' but, because it is so popular among the other shopping cart providers, I would have to pay something like $3.50 per click to get on the first page - This is not cost effective.

Onwards and upwards - As if

Regards

Default That site is odd

Hello Mike,
Well I had a bash at that Goodle link finder site you put on the last msg on here, and I found none of my 6 web sites were found, then I put 5 very large UK companies domain names in it, low and behold not one was found, not even Sky, or a very large UK internet provider.
I honestly surgest you stop wasting your time on that, get yourself a copy of that Link software I told you about, then you will see honest reliable positions of where all domain names are in the listings.
David

its not topshopper you really need to come top, but what your potential customers are searching for, concentrate on that not topshopper and you will get more sales

Yes Mile has Tinkerbell rightly says if a person is searching for an item or product the way that person searches is for what is required, not your name, as unless you have talked to them, wrote to them the chances of them knowing you is well not at all are they?
That is the main reason that internet sales never really have done too well, because it is fact that searching for a product your going to bring millions of pages up yes? but if it was domain names people searched for the searcher would only find you yes?.
Try searching say for a TV set, your going to see millions of them, search for name eg Currys, you will find them.
But people know Currys are there, they wont know you are, sorry Mike but this is the reason shops like H & B keep shops going in towns, it's where items get sold.

The best way to see where you rank on Google for a search phrase is to use Google Webmaster Tools. This will not only tell you your average ranking for search phrases that visitors used to find you but where you ranked for a phrase and how often it was searched for when you appear in the SERPs but didn't receive a click through. This can be very handy for identifying high traffic key phrases that you should taget.

its also a good tool to see what maybe you should be selling also? If say for example you are getting lots of hits with clicks through to your site for dog shampoo but you don't sell dog shampoo, it may well be worth buying some dog shampoo in and try it for a while? Consumer demand
