I would have thought that picking a domain name for a phrase that people are likely to search on would be better.

I have my original website http://www.kaygee.connectfree.co.uk which is well indexed on the web, I purchased a domain from BT a while back http://www.artyman.co.uk which points to this site at the moment. Two things, (1) the artyman domain does not seem to be indexed at all, is it the way that it is redirected from the BT system? (2) I am building a new site on the webspace I have from my new ISP to which I wish to point to from the domain from BT. I am however worried that if I do so, I shall lose all the indexing I currently enjoy as the artyman domain is not getting picked up.

Don't see any problem with that domain name as long as
you spell "receive" correctly...

There is good chance of that happening.. if you already have domain
that is well indexed, suggest you don't jeopardise it...

Choosing a keyword rich domain will certainly help with those particular keywords, but is only one of many things you can do to push you up the SERPs though it won't help with getting indexed in the first place.

www.artyman.co.uk is only framing www.kaygee.connectfree.co.uk so it will never be indexed properly by Google or most of the other search engines; if you open www.artyman.co.uk and view the source code in your browser you will see what the search bots see when they try to index it which isn't a lot. Frames and search engines don't mix well.

Even if both domains were hosted sites, the chances are that only one would be indexed because of the duplication filters that SEs apply. If you want to change the domain used but keep the indexed pages then the best way to do it is to put the whole site on www.artyman.co.uk then 301 redirect the old site to the new one. Using a 301 redirect will pass the search engine status of the old domain onto the new one. You can read more about it on http://www.internetofficer.com/seo/301-redirect/

I'd also highly recommend forgetting about the free hosting from your ISP and invest in hosting for your site. For a site such as yours with no server side scripting or database requirements you should be able to find suitable hosting for £30/year or less.

Default Getting listed - tips and hints

Hi there. If not already consider the following:

1) register with google webmaster tools
2) add a sitemap for your website - there are automated ways of doing this with some content management systems, but anyway it can be done manually (eg using Gsitecrawler) - submit sitemap to google - it points them in the right direction
3) verify your site using google webmaster tools - just means adding an html page

With minimal content you can then get listed with google rankings within a few days.

Type site:www.yoursite.com to check in google search page.
