There was a Google Page Rank update last night. This site's homepage shot up from PR0 to PR4, most of the category pages now have PR3 and even the links page has PR3!

This is obviously great news for the site. I hope that you've all had similar good news with your own sites this morning.

You can check your own page rank using the Google Toolbar or a page rank checking site such as http://www.iwebtool.com/pagerank_checker

I was expecting maybe a PR2 or possibly a 3 but I didn't expect to go straight in at PR4. It seems that all that link building has paid off, despite the fact that Google still shows no backlinks when using their backlink checker!

The thing that really surprised me was the PR on the link and category pages, perhaps they've made a major change to the PR algo? The odd thing is, is that all the categories now have PR3 with the exception of "The Water Cooler"! Go figure!

Some bizarre things happened during the Page Rank Update. Many high ranking sites have lost quite a bit of PR, particularly those that were selling links and link directories, but the strangest one of all is YouTube which previously had PR8 but has dropped to PR3 on it's homepage which is the same PR as my links page! Work that one out!

The relevancy of Page Rank to Google's SERPs algorithm is debatable but what isn't debatable is that this site is now far more attractive to link spammers

My site went up to PR3 too on my homepage and a lot of my categories also came out with a PR2.
mAYBE THEY HAVE CHANGED THE WAY THEY DID IT THIS TIME? I am not complaining though

They seem to change the way they do it every time which keeps the people who try to game the Page Rank system on their toes. It also keeps a whole army of bloggers in business theorising what Google are up to, which is great marketing for them, not that Google need any help in that department.
