How to get Google to crawl your site more frequently using Google's Webmaster Tools.
It's very easy to increase the frequency that Google crawls your site at.
What you do is create an account with Google Webmaster Tools , select the "Diagnostic" tab then click the "Crawl Rate" link and simply set the setting to high. This will increase your site's bandwidth usage so make sure this isn't an issue before changing this setting. There's also few other nifty tools on this site that you may find useful such as being able to see what the googlebot can see! Enjoy.

I need to sort my images out first , have set myself a target for this weekend at the very latest.
How much extra bandwidth are we talking though? how exactly does it work ?

If you have Google images switched off in your robots.txt file then your images won't be a factor as the normal googlebot is only interested in text. The extra bandwidth used shouldn't be an issue for most people unless they're on a host with tight bandwidth restrictions or run a site with 1000s of large KB pages to scan such as forum.
It works by simply telling Google to visit you more often. Google webmaster tools is basically your own control panel for the googlebot.
