Default sub domains

How do I create a sub domain and what advantage disadantages would it have?

You need to edit your DNS records to create a subdomain. There are no advantages to using subdomains on a small site unless the subdomain is going to be hosted on another server. You are also likely to confuse your customers and if you get your DNS settings wrong then you will knock your site offline for 24-48hrs while the records update. Use sub folders instead e.g. if you wanted to add a forum use www.mydomain.com/forum instead of forum.mydomain.com
