Depends on how much access you have to your existing
domain/site's hosting facilities
i.e. ftp, mysql, phpmyadmin etc

Nothing, but suspect you would require new domain name to start
building store.. you need to ask if possible to transfer your new openmind store, when built,
to your existing google ranked domain name, and if this
transfer will incur extra costs..

sorry to ask what may seem like daft questions but as I said I'm a beginner here. Once it's set up i'll be ok it's just getting it transferred and working.
Hello, think I can answer these for you

RE; Transferring products, you may have mentioned this already but I may have missed it in a six page thread but what software does your existing store run off or is it bespoke? Either way if it has a database driven back end, it;'s highly likely we could write you a script to import pretty much everything although customers password may have to change dependent on the encryption method.

The alternative as you say is to re-list them which does help slightly as you can get used to the system as well do a bit of "housekeeping"

"What will I lose if I just start building this from scratch before actually pointing it to the just4girlz address?" Nothing really. You could gt your products all set-up, get the design looking how you want it and then redirect the domain. We can also set a custom 404 page so that if someone follows an old link they will be presented with the site map to help them along.

Top tip - On the 404 page add a message like "Ooops sorry but we can't find that page. As somethings gone awry here's a 10% discount coupon for you to use on our store" The customer will instantly forgive you for the missing page and I've seen 80% conversion rates using this method.

Hope this helps but do get in touch if you're not sure on anything...

From what you said before I don't believe you have FTP or phpMyAdmin access, but in your store's control panel do you have the ability to backup or produce a feed from your stock? CSV, XML, Google Base feed etc, etc. If you do, then it might be possible to import your data into OpenMindCommerce.

The best thing to do is PM Phil at OpenMind and ask him how to proceed.

We could actually get round this at no cost.

We simply set up a domain alias and point it at the domain folder on our server. So you could have http://girlz.openmindcommerce.co.uk to run as a temporary domain for development and then just repoint your domain when ready.

I'm happy you found some of the information on here useful. Hopefully you'll be able to move your store forward and achieve greater success than you were achieving previously.

update

Well we have the new store set up with Phil at openmind.
He's been a great help and we've transferred all the customers and stock over so nearly happy.

My next question is the 301 redirects? How do I do this?

And could I apologise for the statement on the last post where I said to Lawrence

"thanks you in particular have been most helpful"

I didn't mean to leave out all the others who have left advice here for me.
Soowwwwyyy.

Well done, seems much faster and easier to navigate even though it looks almost the same if you know what I mean!
Don't forget to change your title tag though its showing up as 'locasl store' on your homepage
it also appears at the end of every other page too, unless its meant to be there

Hi
Yes link is fine, I might need to ask you to tweak it in a few weeks though
Once contracts are signed etc with the dancewear shop I am buying then my site will have a whole new side to it! Its strange how things grow in a way you don't imagine at first. My site was originally for womens wear

Dance wear?? fantastic.
Nothing like a bit of expansion eh?

Yeh let me know when you are ready to change (tweak) anything and i'll do it.
If you come across any good suppliers let me know.

If you are interested we have a local supplier that sells Gymnastic items, bracelets, necklaces etc and they are flying out!! Here's a link but it's not a great picture but obviously for numbers we can work out a good price (or a dropship price) whatever suits you.

These are just a few of the items but a taster
Gareth.

Thanks Gareth
The shop I am taking over includes all stock too, so shall have to wait and see what is already there. They are still trading and have been for over 9 years so a lot of established suppliers already there so don't want to upset anyone just yet, if you know what I mean!
