This issue has already been mentioned by Tinkerbell in another thread but I thought it needs to mentioned in this section too.

One common mistake that is made when purchasing web hosting is to find yourself landed with a server in another country to your target market. Even if the ISP's domain is a .co.uk one doesn't necessarily mean that their servers are based in the UK.

Many search engines including Google use something called IP location to determine which search results you appear in. To determine where a server is based you can use a site such as this one.

http://www.ip-adress.com/

US and European hosting is often cheaper than UK hosting, but if you want to sell to UK customers then use a UK server for best results.
