Default Taking over e-commerce site

Hello everyone! Noob here, so I apologize for the stupidity of the question, but I have never done an ecommerce site before. Basically, the site is already built ( http://www.womenforwomenprogram.net ), but the owner would like to make some changes with it. I am not the original author of the site, but I have two separate options for software to use, so that is not the problem. It is a php site. So my main question is, in order to update the site as it is, am I going to have to download each file that makes up the site, and put them back in the same file structure? Or is there a way around this? Thanks for your help in advance!

Default As you suggest

In order to get used to the current structure, I would do exacly what you suggest. Download the file to be modified, modify the file, upload the file again. If you change the position of the file in the directory structure without changing the links to the file then it won't be found.

As you get used to the directory structure, then you can try making more adventurous changes.

Regards

It depends on the nature of the update you want to do. If it is something simple such as changing copyright inflammation in each file, you can do a site wide search and replace which will update the whole site with a few clicks. If there are several files that need unique modifications made to them, then it will be more labour intensive,

Well.. the updates will be for the items in the shop. Just descriptions of them, and how big some of the "zoomed" pictures enlarge to (they need to be a little smaller). Other than that, that's all that needs to be done for now. So, for that, what should I have to download? (If you need to look at the site, it is here ) Thank you!

You can backup everything and then update directly on the server.
Even if something goes wrong, you have the backup to restore everything.
