Default Free Anti virus software

Hi,
We all have our favourite Free anti virus software, we have always used the free Avast and if a customer asked about free av we would suggest that they take a look at Avast. Yesterday AVG phoned to ask us if we would like to be a reseller for there software, I have never used it and would appreciate anyones feedback on it. I know they have a free av but have never tried it. I read in the small print that if we agree to resell there product we must not recommend anyother even free software, is this normal practice, and would it be best to remain inpatial,
Thanks,
Regards,
Sean

I've never used AVG though some people swear by it. I've read reports of people who've had problems with malware that's gone through it as if it wasn't there though. I use Kaspersky, I've never had a problem with it and if you check the AV reviews it always comes near the top if not at the top of the lists.

Personally, I wouldn't let a company tell me what I can and cannot say even if I am a reseller for them.

As for free AV, I'd wouldn't touch them myself. My computers are too important to me to leave their security to free AV S/W.

point

I will add this though, I'd rather use free AV S/W than use Norton or McAfee!

I've used free AVG since it's very first release and can't praise it highly enough.

Never had any problems with conflicts with other software and it's worked with all windows operating systems so far including Vista.

In my 15 years on the internet I have yet to get a virus that wasn't picked up by AVG and it's updates are comprehensive and regular.

With regard to being a reseller, I have to agree with Lawrence and Dezina. As good as the software is, there's no way I would let them dictate reselling terms.

Hope this helps.

Arkie....

I was using Trend Micro Pccillin for quite a few years, had been hear from a few people that AVG free edition was very good. it still took a couple of years for me to change, i just wasn't too sure that a free anti virus program would be as good.

i've been using AVG for about 2 years now and i think it's great and just as good as Pccillin, maybe it doesn't have some of the bells and whistles but seems to be all that is needed, theres been no trouble with it at all.

i suppose its a little like Zen Cart in that it performs really well and is FREE...

But if they want you to sell only their software and now other then thats a little restrictive, probably the worst thing i've heard about AVG....

I run a network of 4 computers. On the master, I run McAfee and Cyber defender (IE product), on another I run Comodo security suite which includes Comodo firewall and Comodo Virus protection, on another computer I run AVG and Zone Alarm firewall and on the fourth a mixture including Spybot search and destroy.

I recently worked on a computer with moocho viruses and forgot to disconnect one line after hooking the infected computer on my DSL. I decided to scan all 4 computers and nothing showed up. I did an online scan with kaspersky and it showed a Trojan that had entered through the Sun Java app. It took a little while but I got it out. Unistalling the java and re-installing all new.

I have been satisfied with AVG but it and Comodo did not catch something a while back that McAfee did catch but it was a keylogger. It sits idle until you go back to the same site and if you do or if they find a way to activate the logger, then you are in deep cow chips.

The only thing that I might add to this is, if you use AVG or Comodo, run them in tendem with a good firewall and usually it will detect activity if something gets by AVG or Comodo because theres an old saying that sometimes holds true, you generally get what you pay for.

Default anti virus

Hi

I have been using AVG Free Edition on n off for a few years and it works enough to keep the major stuff away. I would not use it alone without my spyware protection softwares. I use webroots spy sweeper i got free thru MSN with my verizon account. I also use spybot search n destroy cause it actually blocks certain sites kinda like spyware blaster does. I do have a free mcafee account thru MSN with my Verizon account as well but it slows down my PC so much when i use. I get much faster results using the setup i have with AVG.

I've been using AVG for years and think it's great. I bought a laptop at the beginning of the year and use AVG on that. I have noticed that my laptop runs slowly sometimes and when I look at the task manager AVG is using 99% of the CPU. I have not properly looked into it, i could probably change the settings on AVG to fix, I think it's running a scan in the background automatically

Default Norton plus others

We have had PCs and Laptops running Avast & AVG over many years too, but we did get a new PC badly hit with a Trojan thing last year while AVG was on the system, we were not aware that during an update AVG had turned the firewall off and forgot to turn it on again.
The hard-drive and data on it were all lost.
We also found like another person has on here that these free software virus checkers do use lots of the CPU power, plus all the updates seem too often at a bad time when busy working on the PC.
As for any reseller to be told that they are not allowed to sell any other companies software that is quite normal.
We sell health products from our site, and we are not supposed to sell any other types of makers products under our license.

Default I always got trial version

I always preferred Avg antivirus over others cuz it doesn't make the system heavy and use very few resources, on internet I always get a trial version of it which expires after 30 days, I am sure on torrents one can get full version.

My friend told me that she has a problem using Avast because his computer does still have lots of virus. So, I advice him to use AVG instead.

You can add me to the list who have recently switched from AVG to Avast, the latter just seems to offer more.

In regards to the people who still have malware on their PC, give malwarebytes a try. What I can't figure out is the blasted google link re-direct in Firefox... so frustrating and I'm far from a novice PC user!
