Default New "lightweight" version of Magento available.

For anyone who didn't fancy downloading the original 50MB zip file, there's a new slimline version without the SVN files and demo products. This download is 6.29MB zipped or even smaller if you use the .taz.gz version. This is an update on the original version with some bug fixes. v0.6.12510

You can download it from Magento - Download Magento - Open Source eCommerce Evolved

The original version that was available was a SVN development version with full version control so 80% of the files were redundant for a normal user. The slim version is without the SVN files. That link was from September, they have released several versions since then, you should check their site for the latest download.

Magento isn't the easiest script to install and the sever requirements are quite strict. PHP5, Apache with mod_rewrite, mcrypt, Zend Framework etc, etc Have you checked the server requirements on their site?

hmm mycrpt? zend? i dont know about those i figured just php5 and sql, ahh i c now, the zip is 9, but unzipped its about 50, well it certainly is nice but i think ill have to look at other options for now, im only familiar with these things lightly, my host gives OSC and Zen auto installs but im just not feeling it with those layouts, im going to try to email my provider, they usually are helpful with things like this, and btw i recommend them if anyone is looking, they enabled all write permissions for me, i just got them bc theyre in town, i met the owner, he even set me up for free cuz i didnt have a credit card! anyway theyre cwihosting.. ill c how it goes with magento... one last thing... anyone know how "buggy" magento is as of now?

Bit of shameless self-promotion I know but we fully support Magento on our Linux hosting plans:

As well as other **cough** commercial **cough** carts
