Default Etailers Lose Trade by Invisible Errors

Commerce over the internet is riddled with errors, according to recent research from the web testing company SciVisum.

A full third of consumer transactions had an error rate of three per cent, it was found. And in ten per cent of cases there were 'extreme inconsistencies' in delivery speed.

The SciVisum research tested 40 online sites in sectors consisting of retail, insurance, finance and travel. Tests were carried out over a period of six months.

Deri Jones, chief executive of SciVisum, said: 'This is a worrying trend for ecommerce and IT directors and for consumers with Christmas just around the corner.

'Poor performance and web errors will mean lost sales. Companies wanting to maximise their online sales this Christmas need to check the performance of their sites now.'

It is invisible errors that may only affect one in 100 customers and that IT teams are helpless against that are causing many of the problems, Mr Jones added.

This Christmas, shoppers will spend an average of £500 each online, according to Forrester Research.

Well if Royal Mail didn't keep going on strike then the majority of us probably wouldn't have any problems with deliveries

I looked into emails from santa, what rip off! Knowing my luck they would probably all be blocked as spam
