Default Image Quality

I have typed out the logo for my site using Microsoft Word - in quite large font size.

I have then used "snagit" to convert this into "gif".

When the image is then uploaded to my website it is not nearly as clear as it appears in word and quite grainy and difficult to read.

How can I get a really clear image - am I going about this the wrong way?

Thanks

Hiya

Quick answer, Photoshop or something equivalent.

What's the name of your company and what font were you using?

I'll have have a go for you.

Can PM me your email address if you need a hand.

Are you saving it the same size as the displayed image? If it's not the same same size then ZenCart will resize it to fit which will distort the image if the relative dimensions differ.

Most jpg's and gif's are lossey files meaning they lose part of the image everytime you save it to a different name.

Open the image in an image editor and view it at 10 times larger than it normal size. You will see the pixels that have become discolored because of renaming. Word does this. You can save a PNG file over and over and rename it and it will not have any loss. PNG's always have that "sharp" look kinda like a high definition image.

The one pitfall of png is that they are considerably larger in size than other file formats but in some circumstances this does not matter too much, plus you can compress to some degree and that helps. If you want to clean your image up some, open it , view it under 10X, use the color dropper to match the background color and then use the paint brush to sharpen the image up.

I have taken some terrible looking images and made them look much better. When it is a new image and you can rebuild it, like Nick said, just build it again in an image editor program like Photoshop, Paintshop or Fireworks. Actually any good editor will work and try not to rename your image and reasave it. This is where the losses and distortion come from.

Gifs are technically lossless files, it's their lack of colour depth that makes them unsuitable for some image types. I agree with you about PNGs, this is the best all round image format, though the file sizes tend to be on the large size.
