Default COURIERS

Anyone know of a good courier service that doesn't require you to be posting out 500 parcels per day

The cheapest reliable one that I have found is £7.99..but, you have alot more parcels than me, and I bet he'd negotiate a discount for you for smaller than 500! Until you are sending out 500 that is

Have you spoken to ANC as I believe they do a low volume service.
The guys I work with here use them and they only send out about 30 items per day...

Blush, depending on how many items you need to send and how much they weigh, individually, Royal Mail are still delivering all packages that are sent by Special Delivery - Next Day. If the items are fairly lightweight it still works out cheaper than the other services.

Thanks Kate for that info. When I enquired at my ocal post office they seemed to think spevcial delivery was affected too and advised me to stay clear! I will weigh everythign tonight and work out costs etc and head down tot he main post office first thing tomorrow.I have way too many to wait until tues, and I don't want to chance them going astray either. My customers don't seem to have been put off either.

You'll have to negotiate the tariff with them The factors that will come into play are.
  • The average number of consignments you send per collection.
  • The frequency of your collections, i.e. daily, twice a week etc.
  • The collection window you specify and how convent it is for them e.g. between 5pm & 5.30pm or any time in the afternoon.
  • The average weight of each consignment.
  • The service levels you use.
  • Your location relative to the main business districts in your area.
  • The ratio of personal to business delivery addresses. It works out cheaper on average for the carrier to deliver to a business address than a residential address because they are likely to have several deliveries in each business area if not to the same address. Also, businesses are likely to have someone there to sign for the delivery unlike residential addresses where the redelivery rate is much higher and the addresses tend to be more spaced out taking more time for each drop.
You're at a disadvantage with the last point as most, if not all of your deliveries are likely to be to residential addresses. They might not tell you about all of the factors mentioned above but I've worked for both Parceline and City Link and it was the exactly the same with both companies.

As with most other business negotiations, don't accept their first tariff, they will usually drop the price if you barter with them though your bargaining position depends on how much you send.
