Exclamation Help urgently required: credit card declined

Hi there!

Just wrote a very long message explaining my situation, but lost the lot when the power went off!

To cut a long story short, does anyone know why my prepaid, rechargeable Mastercard should suddenly be declined by Play.com? I've used the same card now for years, and have never changed the details of my account. In accordance with Play.com's instructions, I've edited (i.e., reinserted) my card number, expiry date, name, CVC2 code etc, and have contacted my bank on several occasions, but I cannot get to the bottom of this mystery, and cannot currently place orders through Play.com.

I read somewhere that Mastercard users of PayPal who buy products on Ebay have been experiencing similar problems, and that the cause could be the CVC2 code (which, however, Play.com has required since I began shopping with them).

I'd be extremely grateful if someone could explain what may be happening, and what I should/can do to rectify the situation.

Florio

I've had my credit card declined recently too, although that was on a different website. I called up my bank to see what the problem was and they advised me that a supplier I use regularly keeps card details on file and that this particular supplier had been hit by fraud and so all the cards they had on record were cancelled. They advised that I had nothing to worry about and I have since been sent a new card in the post with a new number. I'd get in touch with your bank though just to be on the safe side...

Gee sabz17, that's interesting. Hope it wasn't in the supermarket with a trolley full of groceries.

I wonder, did they wait for you to contact them or would you have got a letter/new card in the mail anyway?
