Default What Do You Need to Start an Ecommerce Website?

If, like many people, you have made the decision to conduct your business online, either exclusively or partially, you'll want to make sure you familiarise yourself with the most effective and efficient methods and means of doing so. Fortunately, there are several different options to choose from when it comes to building your own ecommerce website based on variables such as your budget and skills. One option you may want to consider if you have no programming or website development knowledge is using an online ecommerce site builder, which can also be one of the quickest solutions. Some online store builders even offer free trial periods to give potential users a chance to explore the service before actually signing up for an account. With this choice, you'll need to create a user name and password, choose a site design, upload your photos or product details and finally, begin marketing your site, and hopefully, making sales. If you do have some knowledge of this type of computer software and your own website, another option is using ecommerce software that you must install on your computer and run through your site's host server. If you're already paying for web hosting and able to install the software, then paying a one-time fee for the package could be less expensive than paying for monthly charges. However, you wouldn’t have the same level of support that a complete ecommerce site builder would offer.

Hi Sarah

I have to agree with you. Choosing an ecommerce, hosted site builder can be a very daunting prospect. www.internetretailer.biz is a ready made hosted solution for a starter shop. www.puresilva.com is another good one where you can do a 14 day free trial and gets lots of help to understand all the basics if needed. My advice is to try several of these trials and see which you feel most comfortable with and offers the kind of service you need. Many people can sail through setting up their new site just by following instructions and others think it might as well be written in chinese.
Have a go and ask all your questions, you have nothing to loose but your time.

Your customers (I am sure you will agree) hardly know you; they cannot even remember the attractive sales-girls in your store! What they remember is your brand, they remember your products, they can visualize your showcases, the neatly arranged stacks, the billboard that offers 25% discount. You as the retailer have only one duty – keep this picture as fresh as you can in your customers’ minds so that they will NEVER think of any product other than yours!

What better can you get than a shopping cart that would display your products exactly in the way that you have in your store so that your customers can see anytime, anywhere? With the online store in place, you need minimum effort to manage both the retail and web store and your customers don’t need to visit physically; they are now at a liberty to access, check and purchase anything from your store. Be it with the online or the physical store, your customer-base for your retail business is now stronger and perennial.

24SevenCart is one such shopping cart application that meets all these requirements. Besides being flexible and easy to operate, 24sevencart can take your ENTIRE product details from your point-of-sale (POS) system to your online storefront and synchronize everything automatically. What more, 24SevenCart will create an online ‘display’ of your products in such a way as if these are neatly arranged in your retail store.

For details, visit: www.24sevencart.com

I have had a lot of customers contact me with regards to setting up an eCommerce website. I thought I would share this information of an OpenSource project called Total Shop UK eCommerce. It can be freely downloaded from SourceForge - http://sourceforge.net/projects/totalshopuk/files/

It has been made with simplicity in mind. If you have a PayPal account then great, all you would need to do is add your email address under the configuration page. Simple!

Hope this helps some people looking to start their own online shop.

Regards,
ibizara

I am not against open source...but I am not sure how things can work for someone if he goes from one developer to other just to ensure that the "FREE" e-commerce software runs smoothly.
